The Heape Family Bible dated 1854, has all its original parts. There’s a lot of page damage in the front and the back. The book is a tightback meaning the original leather spine was glued directly to the back of the book.
The heavy handwriting on the inside of the cover attests to the fact the original owner paid $1.25 for the Bible. It must have been a lot at the time or at least to the purchaser.
Almost all blank pages have family record information and it is written in several different hands. I try to advise my clients that in the very near future our children will have forgotten how to read script. And as such, to include as much information about their relatives in a keyboard text added to their book’s content.
